The Millennium Water Alliance (MWA), through her flagship Kenya RAPID program, collaborated with Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC) to train nineteen solar practitioners from Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Wajir on Solar PV level T1/T2. The training methodology used was mainly interactive and participatory, comprising of 14 days online training, 4-hours a day and 2 days’ hands-on physical practical exercises.
Millennium Water Alliance through its Kenya RAPID program mobilizes financial and technical resources from development partners, national government, county government, and the private sector to support sustainable and resilient livelihoods. This is achieved by improving water availability and water service delivery to people and livestock and improving rangelands in Kenya’s Arid and Semi- Arid Lands (ASALs).
This solar PV training will assist the program to increase the average water access coverage in Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Wajir counties from 37% to above 50%. As part of the implementation of the strategic objectives, Kenya RAPID program has set up a County Capacity Building Fund (CCBF) that aims at contributing and putting in place strong, responsive and accountable governance frameworks at county government level that ensure sustainable provision of water and pasture. The fund seeks to bridge the gaps identified through county capacity building needs assessment and support in the capacity development to ensure that the policies and related program activities are effectively delivered and sustained. This will go a long way towards supporting effective devolution and sustainable service delivery of the counties.
The training, which began on 21st September 2020 was completed with a hands-on training on 13th October 2020.
